warmhearted adventure story with some nifty special effects and some first-rate
performances. Nim's Island is a
win-win proposition: an entertaining, diverting adventure saga that offers
excitement and a relatable heroine for children, and also will remind
their parents of favorite classics from their own youth. Its characters, especially

Fast action combined
with rock-solid characters. Kirk Honeycutt Much of the casting
is dead-on, from Cedric the Entertainer as a street dealer to Jay Mohr
as a slimy cop and Chris Evans as an earnest rookie who saddles up with
Reeves' Ludlow for an ill-fated ride. There's a lot to appreciate
in Street Kings, a tight, propulsive action thriller, but there's one
thing to marvel at, and that's James Ellroy's command of story. |

HAROLD
AND KUMAR: ESCAPE FROM GUANTAMO BAY |
|
| FEATURING: John Cho, Kal Penn Rob Corddry, Roger Bart , Neil Patrick Harris | ||
| HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY marks the triumphant return of these two hilarious, slacker anti-heroes. The movie stars John Cho (Star Trek, American Pie) as Harold and Kal Penn (The Namesake, House, Van Wilder) as Kumar, two stoners who can’t seem to get a break. Their last adventure found them traveling across country to find a White Castle hamburger in order to satisfy a weed-induced case of “the munchies.” This time, the boys get themselves in trouble trying to sneak a bong onboard a flight to Amsterdam. Now, being suspected of terrorism, they are forced to run from the law and try to find a way to prove their innocence. What follows is an irreverent and epic journey of deep thoughts, deeper inhaling and a wild trip around the world that is as “un-PC” as it gets. | ||

A modest surprise:
better acted than needed, better made than expected. I laughed so much
at the litany of clichés that I finally had to admit I was entertained
from start to finish by this cheesy knock-off. |
